A Relationship

I am seeing that the Bible is not a how-to book but a book of stories/testimonies. In these stories, things are not always done the same way. When healing the blind Jesus does it a different way every time. It would be great if I could spit on some dirt rub it on the eyes, say a special prayer and bingo the blind are healed. I then recall food falling from heaven as a provision and also remember a country storing up food for years as Gods answer to the need. Once a guy is told to sell everything another is told nothing but he gives half of his wealth to the poor then over repays everyone he has cheated, on his own. There is a message woven in these stories but one alone does not a message make.

Religion can find a message or make rules out of these stories but I believe Jesus came to have a relationship with me. I like rules because I then know what to do, how to do it and I can measure results. I see how these rules did reveal my inability to keep them but that was the best they could do. Relationships are hard, scary and messy but O the joy that comes from one that will never come from rules. Rules don’t give me a choice like a relationship does. I think love needs to be a choice, in a relationship and why Jesus desires one with us. He loves us so much it just does not fit in rules or a religion full of rules.

A relationship is very personal and will look different for each of us. I think I have figured out, for this season of my life, how Jesus would like me to live with Him today. All relationships start with a risky choice and I challenge you to risk choosing Jesus today then begin the journiey to figure out what your relationship will look like.

At this point an app I have popped up with this “Word of the Day” so I will share it here and give Jesus the last word.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
