Moved with compassion by the depth of need in inner-city Philadelphia, the Sniders arrived in 1998 as a missionary family from West Palm Beach, FL. Initially they worked as facilitators of week-long youth mission trips.
The growing demands of hungry and hurting neighbors continually reminded them that their ultimate calling was to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and share the Message with the poor. (Isaiah 58) After four years of establishing and nurturing these relationships, they began to see the need for something bigger than just a family ministering in the inner-city and deeper than just one week long interactions. This was the catalyst behind the launching of Cast Your Cares.
With humble beginnings of raising only $800 a month in personal support, they are currently raising funds to support the Cast Your Cares annual budget of over $100,000.
This budget increase is due to the fact that the needs are increasing everyday. For example, many other organizations, like the Salvation Army, Red Cross and Philabundance, refer hungry people to Cast Your Cares food cupboard ministry every week. This ministry has grown from just giving out a few “slim jim” snacks, to last year when they gave away over 50,000 lbs of groceries with an estimated market value of $70,000. Along with the weekly Saturday cookouts where on average 300-400 hot meals are served, it is easy to say the hungry are fed at Cast Your Cares.
Of course the ministry to the hungry opens up doors to find out more about the individual and the help of the one can happen. The outcast come to the door everyday in search of help and at Cast Your Cares there is help.
